Data > Information Needs Status

Looking for Stewardship

MetroGIS is looking for a Lead Organization(s) to help guide discussions and lend technical support in drafting regional solutions for unresolved common information needs. No action will be taken to address these information needs until a willing and capable organization with a related business need assumes a leadership role.

A central focus of MetroGIS's work is to identify common information needs of its stakeholder community who serve the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metropolitan Area and facilitate long-term support of regional solutions to meet these common information needs. See Overview of MetroGIS's Regional Solutions to Common Geospatial Information Needs for more information.

Regional solutions can comprise one or more datasets with consistent data standards, or they may simply outline best practices for obtaining information. In order to draft, propose and endorse a regional solution, a Lead Organization(s) is needed to help guide discussions, lend technical support and frame potentially regional solutions. In the end, each dataset and/or guideline necessary to address an information need must meet the following requirements:

  1. Identification of desired data specifications for the regional solution.
  2. Identification of custodian roles and responsibilities for both primary producers and the regional custodian.
  3. Appointment of a willing organization with the appropriate expertise to serve as regional custodian.

The Lead Organization(s) need not be a primary producer or regional custodian. They simply need to have a vested interest in the information need and a willingness to work towards drafting a regional solution that secures the requirements outlined above. If you are interested in leading discussions on a unresolved common information need, please contact Randall Johnson, MetroGIS Staff Coordinator, 651-602-1638, or .
